Concurrent Scores First VOD Launch in Baltic States

Business Wire

Concurrent (NASDAQ: CCUR), a worldwide leader of on-demand technology that is shaping the future of television, announced today the first commercial deployment of video-on-demand (VOD) in the Baltic States. Elion, the largest telecommunications and IT provider in Estonia, has chosen Concurrent's MediaHawk® 4000 on-demand platform to provide roughly 1,200 streams to approximately 40,000 IPTV subscribers in a decentralized architecture. The sale was secured through Concurrent partner Scansatec, one of the leading broadband and IP technology providers in Finland and the Baltics.

"Broadband in Eastern Europe is gaining rapid momentum, with Estonia currently leading the market in penetration," stated Gary Trimm, president and CEO of Concurrent. "The introduction of new services, like VOD, is a key element in this continued growth. We are proud to be chosen as a partner in this developing market with Scansatec and Elion."

The competition to break into Eastern Europe was a fierce one for VOD vendors, but Elion and Scansatec both agreed that Concurrent needed to be a part of Elion's launch plans. "Concurrent was chosen because of easy integration with our proprietary middleware and Widevine CAS (Conditional Access System)," stated Tero Jousi, owner and general manager of Scansatec.

Elion technical manager Jaan Inno echoed the praise for Concurrent. "Their technical support during the test phase was extraordinary, and we are confident that this strong support will continue throughout the relationship. We also were impressed with Concurrent's product roadmap, which convinced us they will be there with the products and services to support our continued growth."

Concurrent's MediaHawk 4000 series VOD platform provides unequalled system stability and uptime. The first and most widely deployed VOD solution to utilize commercial off-the-shelf hardware, the MediaHawk delivers independent scalability of content ingest, storage and streaming across both HFC and IP networks worldwide. To date, Concurrent has deployed over 1 million video streams in 26 countries.
