New York, NY (Sports Network) - Major League Baseball reached a new eight-year contract with ESPN for the right to televise up to 80 regular-season games per season across the company's networks through 2013.
As part of the agreement, ESPN will have three windows to telecast MLB games. Those include regional coverage on Monday and Wednesday nights and the nationally televised Sunday night game. "Baseball Tonight" will also continue to be produced and aired by the cable network.
The deal allows MLB to create additional national telecast packages for distribution through other outlets, including the Baseball Channel.
The agreement, which also gives ESPN the rights to All-Star Week events and the exclusive right to the Sunday night season opener, is subject to ratification by the owners.
