Dish Network has dumped the Outdoor Life Network, which recently signed a deal to broadcast National Hockey League games.
EchoStar, which owns Dish Network, said it was forced to make the move because OLN owner Comcast hiked its price to cover the cost of the NHL deal, TV Week reports.
We work hard to provide choice for our customers and keep prices low, EchoStar's Eric Sahl said in a statement, Most of our customers have made the decision they do not want to pay the additional cost of watching that channel.
EchoStar said it will replace OLN by adding College Sports TV, NFL Network and ESPNU for free to some subscribers.
OLN also issued a statement saying it was disappointed by the decision. However, the network said Dish customers do have the ability to explore other cable and satellite options that carry OLN.
