DIRECTV (NYSE:DTV), the nation's leading digital television service provider, said today it is pleased that Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) and Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), in their letter to the FCC, recognize the potential negative impact of the proposed Comcast/Time Warner acquisition of Adelphia Cable on fair competition in the marketplace.
"Chairman Stevens, Sens. Dorgan and Daniel Inouye recognize that regional sports is must-have programming, and by denying their competitors access to regional sports networks, cable monopolies are depriving fans of the right to root for their home team," said Susan Eid, vice president, Government Affairs, DIRECTV, Inc.
