RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of triple play cable, high-speed internet and phone services, announced today that it is has launched its new MegaModem Mach 20 service in Philadelphia area communities.
RCN's MegaModem Mach 20 delivers data at up to 20Mbps downstream and up to 2Mbps upstream, which is more than twice as fast as some other competitor cable modem services, such as Comcast and Time Warner. It is also faster than the leading DSL providers' comparatively priced service in the RCN footprint.
Already available in RCN's Boston and DC Metro markets, the service is designed for individuals that require performance above and beyond RCN's existing MegaModem Mach 10. It allows for faster legal downloads of music, movies, and digital photos as well as faster upstream speeds for gamers and telecommuters that send large files. For example, at 20 Mbps an entire music CD can be downloaded in 28 seconds and a photo album in four seconds.
"Watching the movie King Kong would take more than two hours, but you could download the video in about 12 minutes with our 20 Mbps cable modem service," said Tim Dunne, RCN Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. MegaModem Mach 20 service is included in a number of RCN's value added bundles such as: MegaModem Mach 20 with unlimited local phone and calling features, $95.99/mo; MegaModem Mach 20 with unlimited phone (local, regional and long distance) with calling features as well as full basic cable TV, $129.99.
MegaModem Mach 20 will be available in RCN's remaining markets on a staggered basis, beginning with the Lehigh Valley, PA area.
