Hurricane season started on June 1st and runs through November 30th. The NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) announced on May 22, 2006 that a very active hurricane season is looming, and encouraged individuals to make preparations to better protect their lives. At the NOAA National Hurricane Center, Deputy Secretary of Commerce David A. Sampson noted, "Preparation is the key message."
