Reelz Channel, a 24/7 network dedicated to producing news and informational shows about movies will air in the fall on cable and satellite.
Cable and satellite distributors led by Comcast, DirecTV, Time Warner and EchoStar have signed up to air the channel.
Reelz's sole source of revenue will be advertising said Stan Hubbard, chief executive officer of Hubbard Media, a broadcaster in Minneapolis that owns Reelz. This is due to the 28 million homes that Reelz will reach when it is aired. Also Reelz Is not charging the cable or satellite companies a license fee.
Because of this Reelz will not hand over any of its 12 commercial minutes an hour, to cable or satellite systems.
I think the major studios should have a stake in our success because they're constantly looking for new ways to get the word out about their movies, said Rod Perth, president of Reelz.
