Jun. 16--A television spot created by the Milwaukee office of Cramer-Krasselt for Broan-NuTone took top honors Thursday evening in the Milwaukee 99, the annual advertising and design contest sponsored by Milwaukee's United Adworkers Local 208.
Named best of show was "Comb Over," a commercial touting the quietness of the Broan Ultra Silent ventilation fan -- a unit supposedly so silent that a new homeowner doesn't realize the fan is operating and making his thinning hair stand on end.
Joining Cramer-Krasselt as gold award winners were ad agencies BVK, Kohnke Hanneken and Serve and production company Purple Onion.
BVK won two gold awards, for interactive and poster advertising. Kohnke Hanneken also won two, both for photography.
Serve's gold was for interactive work. Purple Onion's was for a television commercial.
The awards, along with silver and bronze honors, were presented at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
Nearly 500 pieces of work, a record, were entered in this year's competition, Adworkers President Dave Hanneken said. Hanneken is a partner and creative director with Kohnke Hanneken.
From the hundreds of entries, creative directors with five advertising agencies outside Milwaukee chose the 99 best, including the gold, silver and bronze winners.
