The New York Times Company Broadcast Media Group announced today that Dan Lyons has been named group director of sales. In addition, he will serve as vice president and general sales manager for WREG-TV in Memphis. The appointment is effective immediately.

"Now he will be able to share his extensive sales experience and knowledge of the business with a broader group of colleagues, all to the benefit of our entire Broadcast Media Group."
In his new role, Mr. Lyons will supervise all sales for the Group's eight network-affiliated television stations and each station's general sales manager will have dotted line responsibility to him. He will work closely with Christine Di Stadio, senior vice president of marketing and new media for the Group, to coordinate Group sales initiatives. In addition, he will serve as general sales manager for WREG-TV in Memphis, overseeing all daily aspects of sales for the station.
Mr. Lyons, 39, has been vice president and general sales manager for WHO-TV 13 in Des Moines, since 2002. Previously he was director of sales for WPRI-TV/ WNAC-TV in Providence, R.I., from 1999 to 2001. From 1995 to 1999 he was general sales manager for WTEV in Jacksonville, Fla. From 1992 to 1995 he was the local general sales manager for KOKI/KTFO in Tulsa, Okla. He was an account executive for WPMI-TV in Mobile, Ala., from 1989 to 1992.
Mr. Lyons has served on the board of ChildServe, a non-profit organization in Des Moines that cares for children with special needs, and he has volunteered for Children and Families of Iowa, specializing in organizational marketing projects and fund-raising events.
Mr. Lyons received his B.S. degree in Marketing/Fine Arts & Communications from Brigham Young University in 1989.
