Business Wire
BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading provider of broadband multimedia infrastructure for video, voice and data, today announced that David Heard has joined the company as senior vice president and general manager of product operations. In his role, Mr. Heard will oversee all of BigBand Networks' business units and report to CEO Amir Bassan-Eskenazi. He will be charged with scaling BigBand Networks' operations to support the company's growth and increasing the scope of the company's solutions to meet its customers' media management and delivery needs.
"David Heard brings an outstanding track record of carrier-class product development to BigBand Networks," said Mr. Bassan-Eskenazi. "David's experience with scaling organizations, and unique insight into service provider technology development, makes him the perfect fit for BigBand's stage of development. Seasoned executives of David's caliber are not widely available, and we're very excited to be able to bring him on board."
Mr. Heard joins BigBand Networks after guiding a number of high-growth technology companies focused on developing products and services--including cellular, voice-over-IP, DSL and IP networking--to meet the needs of service providers. He most recently served as president & CEO of Somera Communications, which was acquired by Telmar in 2006. Prior to Somera, he served as president and general manager of Tekelec's switching division. He joined Tekelec after serving as president & CEO of Santera Systems, a provider of multi-service network switching platforms that merged with Tekelec in 2003. Prior to Santera, David held a variety of executive positions at Lucent Technologies, including vice president of the company's access division. Prior to Lucent, Mr. Heard held multiple manufacturing, marketing and business development management positions for AT&T.
"Multimedia is changing service providers' business models, and the ways they manage and develop networks. Today's service providers are focused on how to move, manage and monetize content that is richer and more complex than ever before," said Mr. Heard. "I've spent my career developing fundamental technologies that drive service providers' voice and data communications offerings; from analog to digital, fixed to mobile and narrowband to broadband. In combination, these trends have made the delivery of rich, multimedia services possible; an entirely new challenge for service providers. I believe BigBand Networks is in the right position, with the right solution, to help service providers simplify and deliver media services."
Mr. Heard earned a Bachelor of Arts in production and operations management from Ohio State University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton. He also holds an additional master's degree in science and management from Stanford University.
