Cable network TLC has signed a three-year pact to carry The Miss America Pageant, and will air contestant profiles in the weeks leading up to the event.
The previous network for the pageant, CMT, dropped it after two years despite having the TV rights until 2011.
TLC signed the pageant, in part, in its effort to schedule more general interest entertainment programming to round out its lineup of reality shows such as What Not To Wear, Little People Big World and Miami Ink, Variety reported Monday.
Calling the agreement a multimillion-dollar partnership, Sam Haskell III, chairman of the Miss America Organization, said TLC will give the event the proper promotion and attention it deserves.
TLC's first pageant cablecast will be Jan. 26 live from Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
