Oct. 14--Colder Products Co., a St. Paul-based manufacturer, is hoping to make a splash on a reality television show this morning.
Colder makes quick-disconnect couplings, a key element of the HydroMax System, a product that's one of three finalists competing on "Made in the USA," a show on the USA cable network. The show pits inventors against one another for a chance to win a one-year contract to sell their product on the Home Shopping Network.
The HydroMax is a fluid reservoir that attaches underneath the back of a football player's shoulder pads, with a tube that allows them to get a drink without running off the field. Colder's coupling connects the system's components and allows it to be refilled without any leakage. The company has 250 employees in St. Paul, where it makes the couplings.
On today's show, at 9 a.m. Central Time, the HydroMax will be up against two other products: an interchangeable shoe base that allows the wearer to attach different heels and straps for different looks, and the Gorilla Gripper, a temporary handle that enables one person to more easily carry large sheets of plywood or drywall.
Viewers of the show will vote to determine the winner.
"We feel very confident about it," said Steve Wyres, a regional manager for Colder.
